  • Pioneer Day 5.21.16

    An approximate 3,000 men ranged the mountains in the window between 1820 and 1840. A rendezvous was an annual gathering of the mountain men, Native Americans, and traders. By the mid-1830s, it attracted 450-500 men. Beaver pelts had been needed to makebeaver hats. Fashions changed in the early 1840s, making beaver less valuable at the same time they became harder to find due to over trapping. The opening of the Oregon Trail and the use of the Mormon Trail provided trappers who wished to stay in the West opportunities for employment as guides and hunters. Read More

  • Joint Concert - Oklahoma City Symphonic Band and Oklahoma Community Orchestra 6.12.16

    The Oklahoma City Symphonic Band will join the Oklahoma Community Orchestra for an outdoor concert. Performance selections to include Leroy Anderson favorites, Bell of the Ball and Old McDonald Had a Farm, as well as Light Calvary Overture, medleys from West Side Story, Star Wars, and marches. The evening will feature performances by each group and will join together to present Armed Forces Salute and America the Beautiful. Please bring a lawn chair and join us on Sunday, June 12th at 7:30 pm at the Pavilion, near the clock tower, at Oklahoma Christian University, 2501 E Memorial Rd., Edmond, OK 73013. Admission is free. The OKC Symphonic Band is under the direction of Dr. Mark G. Belick, Associate Dean of Music at Oklahoma City University.   • The Oklahoma City Symphonic Band “Spring Concert” featuring Matthew Gregg 4.28.16

    The Oklahoma City Symphonic Band announces their upcoming “Spring Concert” featuring Matthew Gregg, winner of the Young Artist Competition. The performance will include selections from Holst and Tchaikovsky along with movie, show-tunes, and marches. The band will accompany Matthew Gregg while he performs the Concertino for Trombone by Ferdinand David. Matthew is a senior at Durant HS and has been principal trombonist in the OMEA All-State Band, OMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble and the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association All-Star Jazz Ensemble. Matthew attended the Quartz Mountain Arts Institute and toured Europe with the Oklahoma Ambassadors of Music. Matthew plans to gain his Doctorate in trombone performance. The concert will be at 7:30 pm on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Yukon Fine Arts Center, 850 Yukon Ave, Yukon, OK 73099. Admission is free however donations will be accepted. The Oklahoma City Symphonic Band is comprised of approximately ninety professional and amateur musicians from across the metro area. The band is under direction of Dr. Mark G.
