4/14 The Big Event

History:
On one Saturday every Spring, almost 5,000 OU students, faculty, and staff spend the day serving in their local community. The Big Event was founded at OU in 1999 and has continued to grow each year. The purpose of The Big Event is an unprecedented effort to say “thank you” to the surrounding communities for the support they show our campus year after year. Volunteers from the university give back to their community by performing jobs that organizations typically would not be able to complete, such as cleaning, painting, and landscaping. Students, faculty and staff from the University of Oklahoma are sent to a variety of jobsites—
from schools and churches to hospices and neighborhood organizations.

MEDIA BLITZ:
In order to find organizations and job sites, we need your help! Every year, the publicity team for OU’s Big Event puts on a media blitz to find jobsites for Big Event. The purpose of this media blitz is to inform the community that we are looking for nonprofits and other community-based organizations to serve as jobsites. The applications can be found at bigevent.ou.edu, and are due January 28, 2012.
