Call me crazy, but I've always enjoyed exercising. But even at the time that I was in the best shape of my life, I couldn't run long distances to save my life! (As my friend says, “I only run if I'm being chased!”) Well, this year I'm biting the bullet! I've signed up for the Oklahoma City Memorial Half-Marathon! (Not crazy enough yet to do the full-marathon. 13.1 miles is enough for now.)
So I've been training by myself for the last few months using a college track, an old pair of tennis shoes, and a few strength training exercises that I was taught back when I could afford a gym membership. The funny thing is that I feel better now than I ever did after any session at the gym! And the work-out is free!
Most importantly, this run is more than just a new challenge for myself, it is truly a 'Run to Remember.'
The Oklahoma City Memorial reminds us that life is too precious to waste! On April 19, 1995, our lives as a community were changed forever. But because of the amazing hope and strength that Oklahomans have shown, thousands of runners and supporters from all over the nation are coming together for the 9th Annual OKC Memorial Marathon on April 26th. I've learned that it's not about's about living!
I'll keep you updated! Even if I end up crawling across the finish line, I'm gonna make it! Unless I end up making a detour to grab a bite downtown. :) Hey! Carbs are an important source of fuel for runners!
