Mrs. Watkins
My daughter attends West Moore High School, and has admired Mrs.Watkins for being such a strong and enthusiastic woman. The last semester of last year, Mrs. Watkins was diagnosed with Breast cancer. Mrs. Watkins spent her summer going through teatment, learning how to fight the battle of cancer.
Although she was told she would have to endure a Mastectomy surgery in the upcoming months, she kept her faith, and felt the encouragement and love from all her students. She knew she could get through this difficult time in her life. She made a promise to all her students, that she would shave her head for them if they all did well on their first test while she was out. In fact all the students passed! They said they passed for her! And wanted to do this for her! Mrs. Watkins, is now back at West Moore High School, giving our children the best gift. The gift of knowledge. I am pleased to tell you, that she is cancer free, however is still having tests ran regularly.
Mrs. Davis
We would like to recognize our teacher Mrs. Davis, of Mustang Mid-High, she is an amazing person, She cares for everyone. So here is our story...
So I was cutting myself, and Kaylee told Mrs. Davis and she checked to make sure it was true, so she took me down to the counselors and she started to cry and let me stay in her room for 3rd hour. She cried because of what I did, she helps everyone. For instance after that she had the idea if I would give that up for a week she would give something up that she truely loved for a week. She gave up chocolate for One Week! And then the next week she gave up Diet Dr. Pepper! And then following that she gave up watching T.V. unless it was news. She always knows what to say and at the perfect time, she is so funny and laughs with all her students but can be serious about school work too.
Mrs. Cox
Mrs. Cox is a first grade teacher at Skyline Elementary school in Stillwater.
She has given of herself unselfishly for many years. She has a genuine interest and compassion for the children she teaches and she works hard to see that each one reaches their own personal best.
She was years ahead of many others in the way she adapts the learning environment to meet each child's learning needs. She was making accommodations and adaptatons long before it became the "popular thing to do."
Several years ago Skyline was hit by a tornado and took out many homes and even caused death,
She combed the neighborhood checking on "her kids". At one home she found one of her students and his little sister both distressed by what had happened. Both were looking for their toys. She immediately left and purchased new toys for them, This may seem small but it's the small things especially for a child that "make it better".
